Fox's pilot picked up as series
As if there was any doubt, Fox has picked up its Gotham pilot as a full TV series, and in celebration here's the first trailer. Ben McKenzie stars as the early-career Jim Gordon in the Before-Batman crime drama, with support from Jada Pinkett Smith, Donal Logue, and David Mazouz as the young Bruce Wayne.
Plenty to muse on there, with Gordon walking his mean streets for the first time and Bruce enduring a formative tragedy in Crime Alley. As promised, there's plenty of focus on nascent versions of most of the famous villains too. Camren Bicondova is Selena "Catwoman" Kyle; Clare Foley is "Poison" Ivy Pepper; Cory Michael Smyth is a certain Mr E. Nygma; and we get a good chunk of origin story for Oswald "The Penguin" Cobblepot, here imagined as a clammy street thug played by Robin Taylor.
There's no sign of The Joker yet; rumour has it he'll show up as a comedian in the club belonging to Smith's crime boss Fish Mooney. And we've yet to catch a glimpse of Sean Pertwee, who'll be playing Bruce Wayne's butler, guardian and mentor Alfred Pennyworth.
Danny Cannon (CSI, Judge Dredd) is the director of what we have so far, but there's no air date for the pilot or start date for the full series so far. We will, of course, keep you posted.
