Divergent sequel finds Tris a fugitive
With the first Divergent's box office take ranking it as the third most successful Lionsgate franchise after The Hunger Games and Twilight, the studio is naturally pushing on with the next movie. Sequel Insurgent, once again based on Veronica Roth’s books, is now in production in Atlanta.
Robert Schwentke is taking over the directorial chores this time, working from a script by Brian Duffield and Akiva Goldsman. This time around, the stakes are raised once again as Tris (Shailene Woodley), Four (Theo) James and some of their colleagues and family go on the run as fugitives after thwarting the despotic designs of Erudite leader Jeanine (Kate Winslet). Racing against time, and with the Erudite forces ever at their backs, Tris, Four and the rest must find out what it is that her family sacrificed their lives to protect and what has happened to their society. Soon, they’re forced to unlock the truth about the future of the world they live in, and what it means for the future.
Woodley, James and Winslet are back for this one, alongside fellow Divergent veterans Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoë Kravitz, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Maggie Q and Mekhi Phifer. Octavia Spencer joined the cast recently as Johanna, the leader of the Amity faction, and Insurgent will be out on March 20, 2015.
