Steven S. DeKnight will take over the Netflix series
There’s more change happening at Camp Marvel, though this time it’s in the company’s TV department. Drew Goddard, who had been attached to write, produce and oversee the Daredevil series for Netflix, has departed the project to focus on Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off Sinister Six film.
But (Man Without) fear not. This doesn’t mean that the Daredevil project is blindly searching for a new show-runner: fellow Joss Whedon alumnus Steven S, DeKnight will be taking on the duties, with Goddard remaining involved as a consulting executive producer.
Though Goddard brought avowed Daredevil fandom to the project, we’re not as surprised by his departure as we were by Edgar Wright leaving Ant-Man despite spending years developing the film. And DeKnight offers experience running TV series as the big boss after three years on Spartacus.
The show, which will chronicle the further adventures of blind, super powered lawyer Matt Murdoch, is planned as part of an interlocking set of stories following various heroes that will eventually merge into a miniseries currently called The Defenders. Daredevil is scheduled to shoot in New York this summer for a 2015 launch on Netflix
