Dreamworks’ long-mooted live-action remake of manga classic, Ghost In The Shell, looks to be moving forward, with Margot Robbie apparently in talks to join the cast.
This is the first major piece of news concerning the remake since Rupert Sanders signed on to direct back in January, although there is no word on who exactly Robbie might be playing.
Set in a future in which cybernetic advances have led to humans undergoing mechanical implants and robots being upgraded with human tissue, Ghost In The Shell follows the exploits of Cyborg security agent, Major Motoko Kusanagi.
She’s charged with tracking down a fiendish hacker known as The Puppet Master, a figure capable of exploiting the human / robot interface, and reprogramming his puppets to carry out his wishes…
Given that she’s the first major name to be linked to the film, it’s likely that Dreamworks has Robbie in mind for the leading role, although nothing has been confirmed as yet.
Ghost In The Shell has yet to receive a release date, but with the casting process beginning to click into gear, expect that to change sooner rather than later.
