Idris Elba has revealed that he will not be appearing in Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur, despite rumours that the casting has already been locked in.
It had previously been reported that Elba had joined the cast and was set to play a version of the Merlin character, who would act as a mentor to King Arthur.
However, according to Elba an agreement was never reached, and he will not be appearing in any capacity in the forthcoming retelling of the Camelot legend.
“Unfortunately I’m not in the King Arthur movies,” says Elba. “That was a rumour that wasn’t true unfortunately. But I wish the guys a lot of success.”
Co-starring Chalie Hunnam as Arthur and Astrid Bergès-Frisbey as Guinevere, King Arthur will open in the UK on 22 July 2016.
