Ryan Reynolds still set to star
With Ryan Reynolds cemented back in the role he’s wanted to play for years – meta superhero Deadpool – and the film now gearing up for a 2016 release, the Fox pic is looking for people to cast around its leading man. T.J. Miller and Ed Skrein are in talks to sign up.
Visual effects veteran Tm Miller is behind the camera for this one, having delivered a test reel to show the anarchic style he aims to bring to the film. The plot, from Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese’s script, is being kept quiet for now, but expect a lot of trademark quips and fourth wall shattering from “the merc with a mouth”.
As for who Miller and Skrein might play should they actually lock in contracts? It’s anyone’s guess, though The Wrap reports that Miller is being eyed as another comic-tinged voice for the film, while Skrein may end up as the villain.
Miller has become a reliable comic actor in recent years, even bringing something to projects such as last year’s Transformers: Age Of Extinction. He enjoyed more critical success with How To Train Your Dragon 2 and HBO comedy Silicon Valley. He’ll next be back in animated form here for Disney’s latest ‘toon, Big Hero 6, which arrives on January 30. As for Skrein, he’s cropped up in the likes of Ill Manors and The Sweeney and is set to take over Jason Statham’s role as Frank Martin in The Transporter Legacy, which has now wrapped shooting. As for Deadpool, expect him to jump into our cinemas on February 12 next year.
