Jason Bateman To Face A Weirdo

Jason Bateman To Face A Weirdo

In Joel Edgerton's directorial debut

Recently making his own directorial debut with Bad Words, Jason Bateman will soon by turning out for his friend Joel Edgerton's first film behind the camera. Bateman has signed on to star in Weirdo (it's actually currently untitled, but we'll stick with the working moniker for now), with Rebecca Hall also aboard.

The film has been set up as Jason Blum's Blumhouse stable, which should give you some idea of its genre. Bateman and Hall play a married couple who decide to breathe some life into their stale relationship with a fresh start in a new town. But their move takes them into the orbit of a friend from the past: presumably the Weirdo of the working title, whose arrival means unwelcome disruption.

Edgerton will be playing said intruder in what's sounding like a psychological thriller; although Bateman's presence may suggest a darkly comedic tone along the lines of Cheap Thrills. The director is also the producer and the writer, donning the multiple hats he wore for Felony. Last year's excellent The Rover was based on an Edgerton screenplay too.

There's no quoted start date yet, but the Blumhouse tends to move quickly so expect this sooner rather than later. You can currently catch Edgerton on screen in Ridley Scott's Exodus.
