She'll produce and co-star in the heartwarming tale
It’s not every documentary showing at Sundance that can has Julia Roberts leaping on the remake rights, ready to produce and star in a feature version. But then, not every documentary is about a young cancer survivor’s wish to be Batman for a day.
Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Round The World is that documentary, directed and produced by Dana Nachman. It follows the build-up and to and events of November 15, 2013, which saw Miles Scott, a five-year-old from Northern California whose Make-A-Wish request was to be Batman for a day. The result was one of the biggest events of its kind, with San Francisco turned into Gotham City for a day so Miles could aid Batman on a crime-fighting mission. Thousands of supporters turn out to help, and the day became a massive presence on social media.
The documentary looks at the phenomenon, and while it’s early days for the feature version, Roberts’ presence appears to indicate that it’ll focus on the family’s story. There’s no word on a director, writer or other casting yet.
