The X-Files Could Return To TV

The X-Files Could Return To TV

Along with potential reboots of other shows

X-Files-Could-Return

Aside from the occasional talk of a third X-Files film, there has been recent chatter about bringing the show itself back to TV in some form or another, either as a reboot or with the original team in place. Now US Fox network bosses Dana Walden and Gary Newman have said they’re definitely considering the idea.

Talking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour about their plans for the network (as reported by Entertainment Weekly), Walden and Newman admitted that they’ve been looking into the idea of Mulder and Scully returning to more regular duty. “It’s true that we’ve had some conversations on X-Files,” Newman said. “We’re hopeful of being able to bring that back at some point.”

Adds Walden, “Gary and I both worked at 20th Century Fox Television through the entire run of The X Files. It was a great experience. We’ve maintained good relationships with Chris, David and Gillian. We’re very hopeful, but it’s hard. The actors are very busy. They have a lot going on. Chris has a lot on his plate, so it’s just trying to carve out the time.”

The biggest sticking point – aside from whether it’s a good idea to re-visit a show that managed to eke out nine years on the air and got into serious knots with its mythology – is that Gillian “Scully” Anderson and David “Mulder” Duchovny are both busy with their separate small screen careers: Anderson has a recurring role on Hannibal and may make more series of The Fall, while Duchovny has a new show called Aquarius set to launch this year. Creator/show-runner Chris Carter, meanwhile, was gearing up to make supernatural drama series The After, but learned recently that Amazon has decided not to move ahead with it.

And The X-Files wasn’t the only show mentioned for a possible return. While Prison Break isn’t looking likely, the Fox bosses are exploring more 24, though possibly without Kiefer Sutherland for one or more series along the lines of last year’s Live Another Day.
