Billy Dee Williams reprises his classic role
As far as we know, he won't be joining Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (sorry, old buddy). But Billy Dee Williams will be returning to the role of Cloud City's most dupicitous administrator Lando Calrissian for the animated Star Wars Rebels series. To whet your whistles, Disney have released a little promo all about the smooth-talking scoundrel.
Lando makes his appearance in the episode "Idiot's Array" (also the title of some Star Wars comics from a decade ago...), introducing him at a time before he owns the Millennium Falcon. Advance word suggests the plot involves him winning the droid Chopper while gambling, leading Chopper's usual compatriots on a merry dance to get him back.
It looks from the trailer as if Williams thoroughly enjoyed himself and effortlessly found the character again, 32 years on from Return Of The Jedi. His CG avatar is a little jarring though. And where's his cape, eh? Where's his cape? That must have been a Bespin thing.
Star Wars Rebels has boasted high-profile cameos in the past, including James Earl Jones as Darth Vader and Frank Oz as Yoda. Whether we'll meet Lando again in future episodes remains to be seen. We'd suggest not holding your breath for The Mindharp Of Sharu or The Starcave of ShonBoka.
The Lando episode of Star Wars Rebels airs on Disney XD on January 19.
