He's in early discussions to handle the new film
Despite word back in 2013 that G.I. Joe Retaliation director Jon M. Chu would be returning for duty on the action franchise’s third outing, it would appear that things have changed. According to Deadline, I Am Number Four ’s D.J. Caruso is in early talks to handle the film instead.
With Retaliation taking home $372 million worldwide, Paramount naturally wanted to keep things going, and with Chu in place, kicked off a search for writers. Snow White And The Huntsman’s Evan Daugherty was hired in late 2013 to craft the script, which was rumoured to feature the return of characters such as Scarlett (Rachel Nichols) and The Baroness (Sienna Miller) from Rise Of Cobra to appear alongside current franchise main man Roadblock (Dwayne Johnson). But news that Caruso is being courted to take over the main job makes us wonder whether the studio is going in a new direction.
It’s all in flux, of course, until Caruso actually makes a decision, and he’s already busy working on The Disappointments Room with Kate Beckinsale, Lucas Till and Gerald McRaney.
