Edward James Olmos Boards Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The Battlestar Galactica veteran lands recurring role

"What awaits us out there is what troubles me," Edward James Olmos in his role as Battlestar Galactica's sage but increasingly troubled Admiral Adama. That brow should prepare for further furrowing with the veteran Battlestar and Blade Runner actor signing up for a recurring role in Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.. No word yet on whether he'll be on the side of the angels or doing the dark biding of HYDRA, but Marvel has at least offered up his character name.

“Edward James Olmos brings an amazing gravitas to any role he inhabits, something we knew we needed for Robert Gonzales,” said executive producer Jeph Loeb. “When Olmos first appears on our series, everyone will have to take notice – including our favourite Agents.”

The arrival of Olmos's Gonzales will, reveals the official Marvel press release, have “massive repercussions for Director Coulson and his team".

The overlap of themes between Ronald D. Moore's sci-fi and the Marvelverse - the balance of great power with equal levels of responsibility (and big evil robots) - might have helped lure the veteran to lend his character acting chops to phase three of the Marvelverse. Either way, he's a terrific addition to a TV series that has steadily found its feet and is being eased into the Marvel mainstream.

Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be back on TVs Stateside in March.
