Stan Lee has been speaking about Marvel Studios’ ongoing plans, and has suggested that a Black Panther movie is still in development.
A native of the fictional African nation of Wakanada, Black Panther was famously the first black superhero in mainstream American comics, and boasts the usual array of super-strength, agility, speed and intelligence.
The fact that Joss Whedon has filmed some Avengers: Age Of Ultron scenes in South Africa has lead some to speculate that the Panther might be cropping up in a cameo role, but according to Lee, a solo film is still very much on the agenda.
“Eventually, all the superheroes are going to have their own movies,” revealed Lee. “They are already working on Ant-Man, Dr. Strange and the Black Panther and there are others I am not allowed to talk about.”
With Marvel having films mapped out until 2019, it certainly seems plausible that Black Panther would be somewhere on the list. And if Lee is to be believed, it sounds as though it’s more a case of when than if.
In the meantime, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for a cameo, when Avengers: Age Of Ultron opens in the UK on 24 April 2015.
