At least, not right now...
He may not be the final arbiter of all things Marvel, but Robert Downey Jr. certainly has knowledge when it comes to the immediate future of the Iron Man franchise. And, while attending the Toronto Film Festival to stump for his new drama, the once and future (at least in the Avengers films) Tony Stark admitted there were no new solo Iron Man outings in the works as of now.
Of course, that’s right now, and things could change, but Downey appeared firm in his denial at the moment. “There isn’t one in the pipe,” he said. “No, there’s no plan for a fourth Iron Man.” Given that the Iron Man films have, Avengers aside, been Marvel’s biggest earner, there will certainly be more from Stark, though with the actor’s deals growing ever richer in comparison, we may end up with a new Tony before the next lone Iron Man pic.
And there will absolutely be more RDJ on the horizon – he’s part of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, which arrives here on April 24 next year – and he’s signed for the third team-up film. His latest non-Marvel effort, The Judge, just had its premiere at Toronto and will be out in the UK on October 17.
