The Guest's director set to remake Korean thriller
After launching a more psychopathic version of Dan Stevens with his latest blend of horror and thriller The Guest, Adam Wingard has set his sights on something he doesn’t usually tackle: a remake. He and regular collaborator Simon Barrett are closing on a deal to craft a new version of Kim Jee-Woon’s 2010 Korean thriller I Saw The Devil .
It’s an unusual move for the pair, who has usually tended to generate their own material. But while we’re not sure the story was crying out to be remade, the thought of the twisted minds behind You’re Next bringing something fresh to it does have a certain appeal. And we’re fairly certain they wouldn’t have decided to take on the idea without some ideas.
The original is a revenge tale in which an elite special agent’s pregnant fiancĂ©e is murdered by a madman. In return, he lures the killer into a violent, freaky cat-and-mouse game of revenge, twisting the notions of hero and villain into new forms.
Barrett and Wingard have been chasing this for a while, according to The Wrap, and Barrett is already at work on the script, with Wingard starting the casting process. The Guest, which is already on release here, arrives in US cinemas on Wednesday.
