Producing and starring in a film about Hank Williams' doctor
If you thought the most beloved music on Asgard was some combination of massive trumpets and weird bells ringing, think again. Apparently it was the soulful country sound of Hank Williams’ music. How else to explain that, on the heels of Tom “Loki” Hiddleston gearing up to play the man himself, his on-screen brother Chris Hemsworth will produce and star in a fictional film about the ill-fated crooner’s doctor?
Former Thor director's assistant Benjamin Grayson is the big driving force behind the project, directing his adaptation of Steve Earle’s novel, which dramatizes what happened to Toby “Doc” Ebersole, who was involved in the singer’s mysterious death in 1953.
With his medical license yanked, the film finds him living in Texas 10 years later, performing illegal medical procedures in the red light district to support a morphine habit. Williams’ ghost regularly haunts him, acting as an oft-unwanted conscience. In our dark hearts, we're pulling for Hiddleston to show up as Williams, though we doubt that would ever happen: this isn't after all, a Marvel crossover.
Hemsworth, who bought the rights to Earle’s novel, is setting up a busy time with a variety of projects. Michael Mann’s Cyber thriller Blackhat is first out of the gate next year, arriving on February 20 followed by Ron Howard’s whaling drama Heart Of The Sea, docking March 13. After that, there’s the slightly anticipated Avengers sequel Age Of Ultron, which lands on April 24. You won’t be able to get away from the man! (Some of you will be happy about this fact).
