He'll direct the action comedy
Someone hide the riding crops, berets and old-timey megaphones! Iron Man 3 co-writer Drew Pearce has made a deal to direct his script The Long Run for 20th Century Fox. No one is safe!
In truth, this is a delightful development, since not only did Pearce contribute considerably to the successful end result of the Marvel superhero film, but he also slipped on the director’s special hat for a follow-up, crafting One-Shot All Hail The King, which saw Ben Kingsley’s character languishing in prison following the events of the film. And no lesser director than Christopher McQuarrie showed faith in the man, having him write the early draft of Mission: Impossible 5, in addition to the other writing gig’s he’s gotten – your Sherlock Holmes 3, for example.
Not much is known about The Long Run itself, other than it’s apparently an original crime comedy and that Pearce will have no one other than himself to blame if he doesn’t do the script justice. Since he also wrote it. Can’t wait to see behind the scenes video of those arguments.
In related Pearce assignments, he also has a script floating around that he co-wrote with Jason Segel, called Delinquents, which Segel is planning to star in. That one is also with Fox, but there’s no word on a director yet.
