New Poster For Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight Debuts

If you needed any more proof that Quentin Tarantino’s next movie was going to be his on-again/off-again Western, The Hateful Eight, following his confirmation at Comic-Con, then simply buy this month’s issue of Empire – on sale tomorrow – and turn to page 9.

For there, in a world exclusive, is the first official poster for the movie – and it’s a thing of stark beauty, depicting a horse-drawn carriage dragging behind it a trail of blood, vivid red the only other colour on the black-and-white canvas.{Empire Magazine The Hateful Eight Poster}

Elsewhere, we note the bold proclamation that it’s ‘the 8th film from Quentin Tarantino’, that the word ‘hateful’ is given more prominence than ‘eight’, and that it boasts that it’ll be presented in 70mm Super Cinemascope, something Tarantino confessed he was considering at one point. And then there’s the date: 2015.

Notably, there’s no mention of the extraordinary cast that Tarantino has assembled for his pared-down tale of bounty hunters who get caught up in a bloody plot while seeking shelter from the storm. QT regulars Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Walton Goggins and – who else? – Samuel L. Jackson are all on board, alongside a young whippersnapped by the name of Bruce Dern, who’s a newcomer to the Tarantinoverse.

Most of those actors were, of course, linked with the project from the get-go, when Tarantino’s first draft was inadvertently leaked, causing the angry director to call off the project. But, after a cooling-down period, he reconsidered and held a live reading of the second draft, with his cast, in LA in April. Recently, he’s been hard at work on the third draft, and is now in pre-production on the film. And, just in case you thought he might postpone the film again, here’s the poster – in black, white and red – as a firm guarantee. The Hateful Eight is coming.

The new issue of Empire is on sale from tomorrow (Thursday August 31) in all good and evil newsagents, as well as on the iPad. Pick it up and let us know what you think.
