Simon West Plans Mods And Rockers TV Series

And The Who may consult on the music...

He’s most usually known for hyperactive, Bruckheimer powered films such as Con Air or, sans the Bruck, The Expendables 2. But director Simon West has his eye – or rather his ear – on music for a new TV show, aiming to work with The Who on what is currently called Mods And Rockers.

West has the likes of Pete Townsend and Roger Daltry in talks to handle the music on the series, which he would direct and produce. And while it’ll revisit the world of England’s 1960s music scene, don’t go expecting a cover version of Quadrophenia. “We’re not remaking Quadrophenia but it’s that kind of world,” he tells Screen International. “It will also cover the rockers’ side of the story and spills out into the wider world of swinging ‘60s London, taking in gangsters, music and fashion. The two tribes will be at the heart of it.”

He’s also aiming to pull a True Detective on the series and work on every episode. “I’d like to replicate the model of those feature directors who shoot all episodes of a series in one go, back to back, then split them up” he added. “That way I would get control over the look and essence of the piece from top to bottom.” No deal is in place to produce or distribute the series just yet, but West seems confident. His next cinematic outing, meanwhile, will be Jason Statham crime thriller Wild Card, which he’s just finished.
