Marvel's Netflix show finds a key character
With many of the crucial casting elements in place – your Matt Murdock, your Foggy Nelson, your Kingpin – the Marvel / Netflix small screen take on Daredevil is adding another. True Blood’s Deborah Ann Woll has joined the cast as Karen Page.
The character was launched alongside Matt Murdock and Foggy in the first issue of the comic, which appeared in 1964. She works at the law firm with the pair, and was in a long-running relationship with Matt that initially suffered when he revealed his secret identity to her. Despite her long-running status in the books – she’s departed and returned several times, and been killed off at least once – Page was only briefly seen in the film version. We’d hope she enjoys much more screen time and character development here.
Woll joins a cast that includes Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock / Daredevil), Elden Hensen (Foggy Nelson), Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk / The Kingpin) and Rosario Dawson, whose full role has yet to be revealed. With shooting set to start soon, the show, under the guidance of executive producer Steven S. De Knight, will hit screens next year. It’s part of several linked series following the Marvel heroes Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage who will all eventually team up for miniseries The Defenders.
