Neil Marshall Handing Down The Sentence

Neil Marshall Handing Down The Sentence

He'll direct the futuristic revenge thriller

Fresh off of work on portmanteau project Tales Of Halloween, Neil Marshall has set up a new solo effort. He’ll direct The Sentence, which is being described as a futuristic revenge thriller.

The concept, which emerged back when Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp agreed to finance the film, is being pitched as a blend of Death Wish and The Purge. Olympus Has Fallen writers Creighton Rothenberger and Katrina Benedikt have cranked out a script set in a world where an eye for an eye is the law and the family of someone killed has 24 hours to take revenge. In the movie’s case, the story starts when a father kills a criminal to protect his son during a home invasion, only to be confronted by the man’s dangerous comrades when they take their chance for legal retribution.

It sounds like something Marshall can excel at, harking back to the siege mentality of Dog Soldiers. He’s been busy of late bringing his talents to TV with acclaimed episodes of Game Of Thrones plus series such as Black Sails and Hannibal. As mentioned above, Tales Of Halloween, which also features contributions from directors such as Axelle Carolyn, Darren Lynn Bousman and Lucky McKee, just premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival and will screen at the Film4 FrightFest on August 28.
