It’s clearly been designated the day for news (and in particular trailers) for films about real-world events. Chilean mining drama The 33 already has a promo up and here comes the first look at Tom McCarthy’s Spotlight, which looks at the Boston Globe’s controversial investigation into child abuse in the Catholic Church. Check out the trailer at Apple’s site

McCarthy has assembled a stellar cast for this one, with Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Live Schreiber and Brian D’Arcy Jones among those playing reporters from the paper, who held their will against incredible opposition from church officials and lawyers through a year-long dig into some of the darkest secrets of Boston’s religious, legal and government establishment.

The revelations would go on to inspire people to come out and share their stories around the world, and the initial story won the Spotlight team a Pulitzer for their work. McCarthy’s film has a real All The President’s Men feel, and also boasts the likes of Stanley Tucci and John Slattery among its cast. Spotlight has scored berths at both the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals and will arrive in US cinemas on November 6, but has yet to announce a UK release.
