Nic Cage feels God's wrath. Oh, rapture?
In Biblical terms, the Rapture comes before the Tribulation, a terrifying period of seven years when God visits his final judgement upon the world. In terms of horrifying events, Nic Cage starring in an adaptation of the Left Behind book series truly ranks up there. Still, here’s the new trailer.
Directed by stunt legend Vic Armstrong and adapted from Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye’s books, Left Behind finds Cage as Rayford Steele, an airline pilot who must deal with the fallout when the end of the world kicks off as foretold in the Bible. With the faithful apparently snatched off to Heaven, the Tribulation can kick off in earnest, leaving Rayford among the living who must figure out what the hell they do next. Which for him, is even trickier, since his co-pilot, who was at the controls, was taken…
The new trailer fills in some more of the plot points, including how Steele and his daughter (Cassi Thompson) cope in this frightening new world that appears to be racing towards the apocalypse. It’ll be interesting to see whether this can actually kick-start a franchise to burn through the other 15 books. On the evidence of this? Too early to tell.
Chad Michael Murray, Lea Thompson, Jordin Sparks, Nicky Whelan, Quinton Aaron and Martin Klebba are all part of the cast for the film, which will arrive in US cinemas on October 3 but still doesn’t appear to have set a UK release.
