Sherlock and more score at the annual awards
It’s become something of a tradition for Emmy voters to reward some regulars and squeeze in room for a few new surprises. The 66th awards were no different, with some performers practically able to walk to the podium blindfold after multiple wins – Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jim Parsons, say – and a few happy shocks, including Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman scoring gongs for Sherlock alongside series co-creator Steven Moffat, who bagged a writing award.
Elsewhere, Team Breaking Bad celebrated a win for Drama plus for lead actor Bryan Cranston, supporting actor Aaron Paul, supporting actress Anna Gunn and "Ozymandias" episode writer Moira Walley-Beckett as the show took its final victory lap at the awards. True Detective, meanwhile, had to make do with a directing gong for Cary Fukunaga. And Orange Is The New Black, despite switching to the comedy category, came away empty handed. Someone’s getting shivved at a party tonight.
American Horror Story’s Coven series took home awards via the seemingly unbeatable Jessica Lange and guest star Kathy Bates, while The Colbert Report picked up another statuette for its groaning trophy cabinet and Modern Family was awarded yet again in the comedy category. The major categories are below; the full list can be found at the Emmy site.
