He'll star in and executive produce a new TV series
The lines between film and TV have long since blurred, with premium small screen projects attracting all sorts of actors. Keanu Reeves is making his way to the gogglebox, as he’s attached to produce and star in a new series called Rain.
Reeves will be the focus of the show, playing John Rain, a half-Japanese, half-American contract killer whose speciality is making it look like his marks passed on via natural causes. But while he harbours ideas that he might one day live a more normal life – or indeed simply connect with someone – his regular gig makes it impossible for him to achieve that dream and he remains an outsider.
Adapted from Barry Eisler’s novels, the show will be drawn from the series, which includes the books A Clean Kill In Tokyo, A Lonely Resurrection, Winner Take All, Redemption Games, Extremis, The Killer Ascendant, The Detachment, and Graveyard Of Memories. So don’t go expecting too many hugs or puppies.
“As a huge fan of Barry’s work, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to bring his iconic character and incredible world to life,” said Reeves in a statement. There’s no word yet on where the show might crop up, but Slingshot Global Media is looking to find a distribution partner, a process that will likely be helped by having Reeves’ name as a selling point.
