Fox Buys The Foundation

Fox Buys The Foundation

Ninja Turtles writer tackles Nostradamus

They're not quite at the level to threaten Marvel or DC at the cinema yet, but comics publisher Boom! Studios are quietly building a significant slate of movies through their recent partnership with Fox. The latest of their properties to go on the roster is The Foundation , created by Kody Chamberlain and first published in 2008. Evan Daugherty (Ninja Turtles, Snow White & The Huntsman, Divergent) is at work on the screenplay.

Not to be confused with the Isaac Asimov sci-fi classic that Roland Emmerich was wrestling with for a while, The Foundation plays with the idea that, back in the 1500s, Nostradamus put together the titular society to help prevent his dread prophecies from actually coming true. Still functioning today, the modern incarnation uses Nostradamus' published - and secret unpublished - work to help stave off catastrophes and threats to worldwide security.

Boom!'s deal with Fox already has projects based on James Wan's cancer hero Malignant Man (which Wan will direct); the post-apocalyptic Rust; and the Bronte-riffing Rochester in development. Their first movie was last year's 2 Guns, with Denzel Washinton and Mark Wahlberg, based on the books by Steven Grant.

On the other side of the coin, the publishers do a line of movie tie-in comics including an excellent Planet Of The Apes series, so film is definitely in the company DNA. The Foundation will start pre-production once Daugherty hands in his draft.
