After being on then off, and then back on again, Sony appears to finally be hitting the ground running on its adaptation of the best-selling game title Metal Gear Solid. The Kings Of Summer director Jordan Vogt-Roberts is in early talks to handle the movie.

While the game itself has been around in several incarnations since 1998, it has taken years of development for the film version to reach this stage. First announced in 2007, it was then shoved back into limbo in 2010 when the producers and game creators Konami couldn’t agree on how to approach the property.

With those issues now seemingly smoothed out, the story of Solid Snake and his team of anti-terrorist soldiers against a threat planning a nuclear strike, can now start making its way to screens once again. Vogt-Roberts might seem an unlikely choice given that Kings was his first full-length film credit, but studios have had success plucking indie-birthed directors and handing them the keys to big films before, such as Rupert Wyatt and Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. According to Deadline, it’s still early days for negotiations, so we’ll likely have to wait and little longer for Snake and co. to make their move.
