Despite that headline, Jake Gyllenhaal is not planning to give up acting so he can pursue a career in knocking down buildings. He is, in fact, considering the lead role in Dallas Buyers Club director Jean-Marc Vallée’s next film, Demolition .

The director, who has followed up the film that scored Matthew McConaughey, Jared Leto and the hair/make-up team Oscars with Reese Witherspoon hiking drama Wild, is now developing Bryan Sipe’s script as a future project. The story revolves around a young investment banker who falls into an emotional disconnect after his wife dies.

Deciding to tear his life apart to discover what went wrong, he ends up randomly meeting a woman in a chance encounter and starting to turn things around. Gyllenhaal is in no way attached to the film yet, but according to Deadline, he’s definitely interested. And according to Vallée, he’s been attracted by the fact that “Demolition is such a powerful and touching story, written with a strong and sincere desire to try to understand the human psyche, what makes us so unique, so special, what makes us love. This is a script of a rare quality, of a beautiful humanity.” So that’s nice.

Gyllenhaal most recently worked on journalism drama Nightcrawler and climbing pic Everest. He’s next set to work on boxing film Southpaw with director Antoine Fuqua.
