Alcon’s forthcoming remake of Point Break continues to move forward, with second-unit filming already underway, and producer Broderick Johnson has been discussing what we can expect from the new film.
“The script only shares in common with the original the characters and the nature of the character dynamic between Utah and Bodhi and their relationship,” says Johnson. “Everything else about the movie is different. The narrative of the movie is different.”
“While we do have surfing in the film, it is only a subset of the extreme sports that we deal with, including free-climbing, motocross, wing-suiting and so forth. The movie is being shot in 10 countries across the globe.”
Not that they’ll be throwing the baby out with the bathwater with regards to the bromance that made the first film so great…
“What we found fascinating about the original film, and is preserved in this, is the character work and the relationship between Bodhi and Utah, who are these two gentlemen on opposite sides of the law, and yet share a common bond," says Johnson. "That’s the one element that the two movies share.”
Johnson went on to confirm that the movie will be released in 3D and IMAX formats, which probably shouldn’t come as a massive surprise. Directed by Ericson Core and co-starring Gerard Butler and Luke Bracey, Point Break will open in the UK in 2015.
