For a true-life tale from The Help's Tate Taylor
Since earning plenty of acclaim (and an Oscar nomination) for her role In Gravity, Sandra Bullock has been taking some time to figure out her next move. She’s considered films such as Annie, but turned down most roles. Now The Help 's director Tate Taylor is hoping to lure her aboard an untitled film chronicling the interesting true story of Tupperware sales whizz Brownie Wise.
Though the tale of Tupperware might not sound all that engaging, Wise’s involvement actually feels more suited to cinematic treatment. Taylor has based his script on Bob Kealing’s book Tupperware Unsealed, which charts the history of the product, originally developed by Earl Silas Tupper. It rose to prominence in the 1950s, however, when sales executive Wise hatched the idea of promoting it via Tupperware parties. The plan worked, and launched Wise into the business stratosphere, rivalling the popularity of the storage system. She became the first woman to be featured on the cover of Business Week in 1954.
Yet she clashed with Tupper, and he eventually forced her out of the company, expunging her involvement from the records. Taylor is focusing on her rise and fall, and has met with Bullock about the role. She’s apparently interested but not yet committed.
The writer/director’s next film is also a real-life story, as he has James Brown biopic Get On Up headed into our cinemas on September 26. Bullock, meanwhile, will be heard in Despicable Me spin-off The Minions Movie, due out on June 26 next year.
