Doug Liman Targets Railhead

He’s just about to bring a sci-fi story from the page to the big screen with Edge Of Tomorrow, and it looks like Doug Liman is ready to raid the shelves again for a potential future project. He’s in talks to direct an adaptation of Philip Reeve’s children’s book Railhead .

The book crafts a futuristic world where trains travel through space via portals. Our hero is a petty thief hired to pinch a particular object, which turns out to be much more important than he could ever have guessed, and sets in motion events that could rock the entire galaxy. Blending humans with aliens, the story sounds like it could be steampunk-tastic.

Never heard of it? Join the club. Reeve, the writer of the Mortal Engines and Larklight book series won’t even have the new book on shelves until later in 2015. But Warner Bros. and producers Denise Di Novi and Alison Greenspan think it could be a potential new film for Liman to handle. The director had several ideas bobbing away in development, including thriller Narco Sub and an adaptation of the Splinter Cell game. Given that no writer is attached to Railhead yet, we’d expect it to wait in line for a while. Edge Of Tomorrow, which stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, is out here on May 30.
