Johnny Knoxville Takes Sick Day

Johnny Knoxville Takes Sick Day

He's set for a new Universal comedy

Johnny Knoxville spent the duration of his most recent film slathered in old-man make-up and doing stunts for Bad Grandpa, so we’d forgive him for looking to goof off. But his new comedy, Sick Day, promises more Ferris Bueller-style adventures than chances to relax.

Universal has him locked in for the comedy, which The Break-Up's Jeremy Garelick wrote and has now handed to Jordan Cahan to take a pass on before Garelick nabs it back to direct. Sick Day tears a page from Ferris’ book, focusing on three grown friends who uphold a tradition of calling in sick to work one day a year to indulge fantasies while avoiding getting caught. Few other details have been released, but we expect plenty of madness as the three go about their latest day.

Garelick has handed over the writing gig to Cahan because he’s too busy editing his first directing job, The Wedding Ringer, set to hit UK screens on March 20 next year. Once he’s finished with that, he’ll turn his attention to Sick Day, so we’d expect to see more casting announcements soon.

Knoxville has several projects bubbling away, but we’ll hear him rather than see him next, as he was announced as the somewhat unexpected choice to voice Leonardo in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , which lands here on October 17.
