The first trailer has arrived from James Gray's period drama, The Immigrant, in which Marion Cotillard's Polish immigrant lands in 1920s America, alone and afraid after her sister is deported upon arrival.
When Joaquin Phoenix offers her a way to stay in the country, things appear to be looking up, until it becomes clear which line of business her new benefactor is involved in.
It turns out that Phoenix has embroiled her in the world of prostitution, with her only hope of escape coming in the form of his magician cousin, the dashing Jeremy Renner.
Take a look at the new trailer, below…
It's certainly a heavyweight central cast to take on the meaty subject material, and the swathes of gushing review quotes interwoven into the trailer seem to bode well for this one…
Directed by Gray and co-starring Dagmara Dominczyk, Jicky Schnee and Antoni Corone, The Immigrant will open in the US on 16 May 2014, with a UK date to be confirmed.
