Ol' big head is back
While the thought of watching an entire Michael Fassbender movie without catching the briefest glimpse of those twinkly Fasspeepers might bring one or two people out in a rash, they’ll need to give Frank a pass. After all, it wouldn’t be much of a Frank Sidebottom-inspired film if he swanned around without that famous papier-mâché head on. Here’s a new poster for the film foregrounding the big-bonced comedy warlock to set him in context. Click on the image for a closer look. {Frank Poster} The story, from The Men Who Stare At Goats’ Jon Ronson and Peter Straughan, finds Domhnall Gleeson as Jon, who joins a band led by the eccentric Frank (Fassbender). Loosely based on comedian and musician Chris Sievey (with influences from Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart), Frank tells the story of a group who want to make some truly new music, and go about it in very strange ways.
Oh, and there’s the fact that Frank himself refuses to ever take his giant head off. When the group is offered a gig at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, a road trip begins that starts to show the cracks in the various friendships and, at one point, the head…
Frank comes from Lenny Abrahamson, and promises to deliver plenty of offbeat comedy. With Scott McNairy, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Tess Harper, Travis Hammer, it will be out here on May 9.
