David Goyer Talks Warners/DC's Future Plans

'There have been a lot of general conversations...'

As Marvel (with Disney’s distribution support) continues to roll out the planned schedule for movies based on its comic book universe and slowly weaves together an entire universe, Warners/DC has seemed to be forging a different, less organised path. Talking to IGN, David Goyer says that the company is in no rush to try to duplicate the route taken by Iron Man, Thor and Cap’s backers.

“It's too early,” he says when asked about potentially tying in DC-based TV shows the way that Marvel has spun Agents Of SHIELD off from The Avengers. “I know that Warner Bros. would love to make their universe more cohesive. There have been a lot of general conversations about that, but it's really, really early. I'm not sure. Marvel has had enormous success, but I'm not sure that everybody should try to emulate them either. It's just been vague conversations so far.”

That said, it does seem like the company is inching forward in an agenda to re-launch Batman alongside Superman and now Wonder Woman for a potential Justice League film. It’s just that, as Goyer says, Warners is watching Marvel without trying to emulate them, and that’s partly due to his input and other creative types. “I know this is going to sound cheap, but I don't really. There's just our approach to how we want to tell a story, and hopefully we can convince Warner Bros. or whatnot of that. We don't sit in a room with cigars and say, ‘Look at what these guys are doing!’ It doesn't work that way. I don't know.”

At the very least, Warners will be taking on the Marvel universe full force in 2016, with the untitled, Batman/Wonder Woman-filled Man Of Steel sequel confirmed as going up against the third Captain America outing.
