The roster for Captain America: Civil War may be more stuffed than Tony Stark’s quip drawer but one character who won’t be appearing is Nick Fury. Samuel L. Jackson revealed to Collider that his man is taking the movie off.
"I’m not in Captain America 3. I can’t figure that out, but I’m not,” he said. "I guess I’m still out there, trying to figure out what happened to S.H.I.E.L.D. and who these other people are.”
His surprise is understandable bearing in mind Fury was such a pivotal figure in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, although it’s possible there just wasn’t space on the call sheet for another player. So far the cast includes Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Anthony Mackie, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Frank Grillo, Chadwick Boseman, Jeremy Renner, William Hurt - aaaaand breathes – Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Martin Freeman and Don Cheadle, with Daniel Brühl on board as the nefarious Baron Zemo.
Jackson does have two MCU projects remaining on his nine-picture deal but is keen to add more to his slate. “Of course [I’m interested in returning],” he stressed. "I’m looking for a contract extension right now. I’m looking to re-up.”
Captain America: Civil War, which has Joe and Anthony Russo returning to their directors’ chairs, is currently shooting for a April 29, 2016 UK release. Jackson is next up reuniting with Quentin Tarantino for The Hateful Eight.
