There’s clearly something to prison escape thriller Three Seconds, as it’s attracting great actors all the time. With Luke Evans and David Oyelowo already attached, the cast has swelled to include Josh Brolin, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Olivia Munn.
Peaky Blinders veteran Otto Bathurst is in the director’s chair, overseeing a script by Matt Cook and Rowan Joffé that adapts the book by Swedish authors Anders Roslund and Börge Hellström. The plot will see Evans as a man forced to go undercover in a prison for an FBI sting operation. But then the bureau’s agents abandon him in the violent jail and he has no choice but to figure out a way to escape on his own.
Gyllenhaal is taking the role of an FBI agent who has a history with Evans, while Brolin is attached to play her superior. Munn, meanwhile, will be Evans’ wife.
Brolin, most recently seen Inherent Vice (and, albeit briefly, providing the voice and performance capture for Thanos in the Avengers: Age Of Ultron credit sting), has mountaineering drama Everest set for release on September 25, with drug war thriller Sicario following on November 6 and the Coen brothers’ latest, Hail, Caesar! on February 26 next year. Gyllenhaal was last in Frank and fantastic miniseries The Honourable Woman and will make Three Seconds her next film, while Munn is part of Zoolander 2, Ride Along 2 and X-Men: Apocalypse, the latter of which is out here on May 19 next year.
