One is a Disney Channel veteran with a healthy film credit list. The other is the spawn of the Terminator who has been making forays into the acting world himself. But together, Bella Thorne and Patrick Schwarzenegger are headed into romantic drama territory, signing on to the lead roles in Midnight Sun.
Scott Speer is on board to direct the movie, which will be loosely based on the 2006 Japanese drama Taiyô no uta. The American version will focus on Katie (Thorne), a 17-year-old who is forced to stay indoors because of her rare condition, one that means the slightest exposure to sunlight could be deadly. But a chance encounter with Charlie (Schwarzenegger) sparks a summer romance that, by necessity, must be enjoyed behind closed doors and windows or at night. Hope they’re all ready for a lot of night shoots or day-for-night work…
Eric Kirsten wrote the script for this one, which should be shooting in September. Thorne has a role in one episode of the Scream TV series, and a regular gig on another show, Shovel Buddies. Film-wise, she’s part of the voice cast for the Ratchet And Clank movie and will appear in (shudder) Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Road Chip. Schwarzenegger will next be seen in Scouts Vs. Zombies, which hits the UK on November 27.
