The Lego Batman Movie Leaps Over Ninjago

The Lego Batman Movie Leaps Over Ninjago

The Dark Knight will hit cinemas first. Cue the theme!

Batman, eh? When he’s not planning to duff up Superman (good luck with that, Bruce), he’s stealing scenes in The Lego Movie, which in turn leads to him scoring his own blocky spin-off. And now, presumably soaring in his self-constructed Batwing, he’s gone flying past the Ninjago film to secure a prime spot as the first Lego spin-off to see screens. You know where to hit play.

Warner Bros. has been tinkering with the release dates, and, despite not featuring an official title and seemingly entering production after it, the Batman film will in fact land in cinemas first (US dates for now, so have caution, though we predict they’ll be pretty close) on February 10, 2017. Ninjago, which had been targeting an autumn 2016 release, will now follow the Dark Knight into cinemas, with a planned September 22 date the same year.

As for The Lego Movie Sequel – its official title for now – that will then arrive on May 18, 2018, pretty much as originally scheduled. Unless seven new Batman films are suddenly on tap to fill the gap, of course, but even with Bruce Wayne’s resources, we doubt the studio could make that happen.

All three have been developed by the established Bricksburg Chamber Of Commerce brain trust overseen by main Lego men Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Chris McKay is directing the Batman film with Seth Grahame-Smith on to write the script and Will Arnett back to give the hero his raspy tones. Charlie Bean will direct Ninjago and Rob Schrab is calling the shots for the Lego Movie sequel.
