'I wouldn't call this a Superman sequel...'

With the first trailer for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice out on the web officially, naturally people want to talk about it. But what about those in the film itself, who must struggle with the restrictions of secrecy while also out on the promotional trail? That’s a challenge being faced by Henry Cavill, who spoke to MTV about the movie while attending CinemaCon.

Though some might naturally think that the new Warners/DC Comics film is a natural follow-up to Man Of Steel, it’s not as direct a sequel as you might think. “"I wouldn't call this a Superman sequel,” says Cavill. “This is Batman versus Superman, so it's a separate entity altogether. It's introducing the Batman character, and expanding upon the universe that was kicked off by Man Of Steel. So yeah, watch the space. See how it turns out. Again, everything can change in the editing room. But, as it stands, it's definitely an introduction of the Batman character and, ultimately, the introduction of the Justice League films."

There is another stand-alone Superman outing on Warners’ future schedule between now and 2020, so you can expect more of the direct plot points to be explored in that. And Batman V Superman was already going to be so crowded with new elements including Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor and the various seeds to be planted for Justice League, that to tie up every string rom Man Of Steel probably would’ve involved a four-hour cut.

We’ll see what is included when Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice lands here on March 25 next year.
