At the rate we’re going, Kong: Skull Island could end up a full-fledged Straight Outta Compton reunion. With Corey Hawkins already aboard the adventure film, Compton co-star Jason Mitchell is now set to sign on to the cast.
With Hawkins, Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson and other recent recruit Toby Kebbell locked in, Mitchell is, according to The Hollywood Reporter, in negotiations to play a wise-cracking pilot. Little else is known about the film’s story right now, but we do at least know that it sees a brave (or foolhardy) group heading to the fog-shrouded, mysterious titular island, home to the world’s biggest, angriest ape and a whole host of other creatures. As they venture deeper within the place, they encounter yet more surprises.
Jordan Vogt-Roberts is in charge of marshalling the monster mash, working from a script that has seen work by Max Borenstein, John Gatins, Dan Gilroy and, as production nears, Jurassic World co-writer Derek Connolly. And while nothing is official yet, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Wilkinson and John C. Reilly may end up joining the others in the cast.
Kong: Skull Island should be shooting in a couple of months, ready for a March 10, 2017 release in the UK and US. Mitchell’s role as Eazy-E will arrive on our screens in Straight Outta Compton this week (read more about the movie here), and he’ll also be seen in comedy caper Keanu and crime thriller Vincent-N-Roxxy.
