Stephen Gaghan is rolling the cameras now on his new based-on-real-life mining drama Gold. But he isn’t finished adding actors to the cast, with Jurassic World’s Bryce Dallas Howard aboard.
The film, which has a script from Patrick Massett and John Zinman, tells the story of the 1993 Bre-X Corporation mining scandal. The plot follows a rough-around-the-edges prospector Kenny Wells (Matthew McConaughey) who stumbles upon one of the largest gold mines in the world in the Indonesian jungle. Which, you may not be surprised to learn given the word “scandal” before, turned out to be bogus. Howard is playing Kay, the long-time girlfriend of Wells, who gets wrapped up in his schemes.
She joins a cast that also includes Edgar Ramirez, Michelle Williams, Joshua Harto, Corey Stoll, Rachael Taylor, Bruce Greenwood, Stacy Keach and Timothy Simons. Gaghan is shooting in Thailand, Mexico and New York, though obviously not all at once.
Howard will next be seen in Disney’s new live-action take on Pete’s Dragon, due here on August 12 next year. And she’s attached to the as-yet-untitled Jurassic World sequel (unless they just call it The Lost Jurassic World), which is targeting a June, 2018 release.
