The Hobbit will end with 45 minute battle scene

A few new details have emerged regarding series curtain-closer The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies, with EW confirming that the film will conclude with an epic, 45-minute battle sequence.

The set-piece will bring the series to a close in spectacular fashion, as Sauron makes a play for Middle-earth by dispatching his forces to launch a concerted assault on our heroes.

However, if you are concerned that 45 minutes of sword-swinging might become a bit wearisome, Peter Jackson is quick to reassure that the sequence will be designed to avoid losing the audience…

“We have a rule that we’re not allowed to go more than two or three shots of anonymous people fighting without cutting back to our principal characters,” says Jackson. “Otherwise the audience just ends up with battle fatigue.”

Co-starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen and Richard Armitage, The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies will open in the UK on 12 December 2014.
