The first trailer has exploded online for Ex Machina, Alex Garland’s directorial debut, in which Oscar Isaac and Domhnall Gleeson find themselves embroiled in a rather unusual love triangle.
Gleeson plays a talented programmer, selected to work with Isaac on developing an extremely advanced, artificially intelligent robot in a remote research facility.
However, since said robot looks like Alicia Vikander, the situation soon grows complicated, with Gleeson starting to develop feelings for her while beginning to question Isaac’s motivations.
Take a look at the new trailer, below…
Having also penned the script, Garland looks to have conjured up a claustrophobic, subtly unnerving sci-fi, with Isaac turning in a particularly creepy performance as the robot’s inscrutable creator.
Directed by Garland and co-starring Corey Johnson and Chelsea Li, Ex Machina will open in the UK on 23 January 2015.
