Does the new Phil Lord/Chris Miller idea hint at the how they’re able to be involved in so many projects? It just might… Despite an already loaded development plate full of movies and TV shows, they’re attached to produce another, sitcom In Time.
Much like The Last Man On Earth, however, which they helped to launch, someone else will be doing the heavy lifting of producing the show while they oversee matters. In this case, it’s Family Guy veteran Julius Sharpe, who has developed the idea and will head the writing team for the show. The story for In Time – no relation to the 2011 Justin Timberlake film – finds three friends who discover a way to time travel, but must balance that with the more ordinary details of their lives. It’s been handed a pilot order by US network Fox, which also carries The Last Man across the pond.
Naturally, being big giant nerds, Lord and Miller would choose to announce the show today, on Back To The Future Day. And we like to picture them producing all their various shows and movies – at least the ones they’re not the direct creators on – by a speed-dating meeting method. “Make that 10% funnier!” “We like that actor, hire them!” “More beardy!”
Lord and Miller’s TV domain also currently includes a show based on popular true crime podcast Serial and animated pilot Son Of Zorn with Jason Sudeikis attached. On the film front, there’s the ever-expanding Lego Movie universe and their primary focus, the young Han Solo Star Wars film.
