George Clooney In Talks To Direct Suburbicon

George Clooney In Talks To Direct Suburbicon

A noir drama written by the Coen brothers

His previous collaborations with the brothers Coen have been fruitful, spawning Intolerable Cruelty, O Brother, Where Art Thou? and the forthcoming Hail, Caesar!) He’s taking a slightly different track for a fourth team-up, entering talks to step behind the camera and direct the Joel and Ethan-scripted Suburbicon.

Little is known about the film at this point, but Sony’s TriStar arm is feverishly hoping it all comes together, which is looking likely. Clooney would handle what is described in Deadline’s report as a ‘50s-set noir drama that would feel tonally like the Coens’ Blood Simple. Talk of this happening has been floating around for nearly a decade, with the chatter about Clooney and the film dating back to 2005, around the time he was being feted for Good Night And Good Luck. And while the Coens usually direct their own material, they have provided scripts for others, including their recent re-write work on Steven Spielberg’s Bridge Of Spies.

The brothers’ latest, the aforementioned Hollywood kidnap comedy drama Hail, Caesar!, is due here on February 26. Clooney will be part of that cast, and will then follow the film with Jodie Foster’s financial hostage drama Money Monster, out on April 15.
