Peyton Reed In Negotiations To Direct Ant-Man And The Wasp

Peyton Reed In Negotiations To Direct Ant-Man And The Wasp

Marvel wants him back on superhero wrangling duty

Peyton-Reed-Ant-Man-Sequel

Just a couple of weeks after announcing that it was slotting Ant-Man sequel Ant-Man And The Wasp into its Phase Three plans, The Hollywood Reporter brings news that Marvel Studios is looking to have director Peyton Reed back on board for the new movie.

Reed is mentioned as in negotiations, which means he’s close to a deal to call the shots once more. Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lily, who signed the usual multi-film Marvel contract, will return as Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne, and we’d be surprised if Michael Douglas, Michael Pena, Judy Greer and other members of the first film’s cast weren’t already in consideration to show up once more.

Of course, while it has a release slot (July 2018), the film still needs a script and that'll be the next step once Reed is aboard. The original featured contributions from Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish (who developed it for years), Rudd and Adam McKay, plus uncredited work from in-house duo Gabriel Ferrari and Andrew Barrer, who wrote new drafts as shooting took place.

So there’s no word on what the story might be, though of course the title has us thinking Hope will get her turn in the character and action spotlight and the plot may well be tinged with the fallout from Captain America: Civil War, which will see Scott briefly pop up. The superhero conflict pic lands here on April 29 next year.
