The UK teaser trailer for Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, which arrived a couple of weeks ago, opted for a period drama tone before breaking out into a brief taste of undead-slaying mayhem. The US version is more geared towards doom-laden horror and action, and offers lots of new footage. Check it out over at Entertainment Weekly’s site.
Based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s genre mash book, which took Jane Austen’s classic tale of love, manners, society and stubbornness, and injected a hefty dose of zombie action into it, the film has finally overcome years of development difficulties involving different directors, writers and actors and is preparing to unleash itself upon us all.
Working from his adaption of the book, director Burr Steers has heroine Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) musing over how to balance life with the stench of death that is everywhere thanks to a huge outbreak of the risen dead (or “sorry stricken” as they’re known here) which struck following a vicious plague. And while she may not be on the lookout for a husband like some of her sisters and contemporaries, things change when she finds a potential match in Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley).
With Matt Smith as Mr. Collins (who actually shows up in this new video), Douglas Booth as Mr. Bingley, Jack Huston as Mr. Wickham, Bella Heathcote as Jane Bennett, Suki Waterhouse as Kitty Bennet, Ellie Bamber as Lydia Bennet as Charles Dance and Sally Phillips as Mr. and Mrs. Bennet, the film will go for brains here on February 12.
