Four New Dad's Army Character Posters Land Online

Four New Dad's Army Character Posters Land Online

Privates on parade

It's Back To The Future Day, so what could be more apt than some favourites from the past reappearing in our lives (and timelines) to bring a little nostalgia to a soggy Wednesday? Swapping Corporal Jones' van for the DeLorean, here's the lads from Dad's Army in character poster form to provide us with exactly that.

Following on from yesterday's ensemble one-sheet and teasing tomorrow's full trailer, these four posters gather the eight men of Wilmington-On-Sea's Home Guard platoon together. Finely-tuned instruments of war to a man, this is one more crack commando unit that cannot be held by a maximum security stockade. A smoky pub, meanwhile...

First up are the leaders of the squad, Captain Mainwaring (Toby Jones) and Sergeant Wilson (Bill Nighy), colleagues at the local bank and a tension-filled double-act at the barracks.

Next up is Private Walker (Danny Mays), a black marketeer and ladies man with a pencil 'tache so sharp, you could fill in a dodgy cheque with it. Alongside him is Michael Gambon's doddery Private Godfrey, here looking like he's preparing an ambush at a Hawaiian luau.

The bellicose Corporal Jones (Tom Courtenay), more mouth than khaki trousers, and doomy Scotsman Private Frazer (Bill Paterson) double up in the third poster, while below is mummy's boy Private Frank Pike (Blake Harrison) and total interloper Rose Winters (Catherine Zeta-Jones).

The latter, the eagle-eyed will note, is not a member of the squad. Instead, she's a new character to Dad's Army, a journalist with The Lady who's been sent up from London to report on the brave boys sticking it to Adolf. Will they - or she - spot the Nazi spy in their midst who's threatening to reveal the secrets of the planned D-Day landings and ruin the show before it's started? Can they avert certain catastrophe on the beaches of France, thereby disastrously retconning the entirety of Saving Private Ryan?

We're going to say probably, yes, but with this level of roguery on display, and this gilded cast on screen, we can't wait to enlist when the film lands on February 5.
