Edgar Ramirez In Talks For The Girl On The Train

He's looking to board the thriller

He’ll run, BASE jump, dive out of planes and otherwise go to extremes in next year’s Point Break remake, but Edgar Ramirez has his eye on a more sedate (but, given the plot, no less thrilling) mode of transport for a potential future film. He’s in talks to join The Girl On The Train

Erin Cressida Wilson adapted the script from Paula Hawkins’ much buzzed-about book, which drew comparisons to Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl for its narrative. We’ll caution that even the basic synopsis might be considered a spoiler, but read on if you wish… The story follows a recently divorced woman called Rachel (Emily Blunt) struggling with her life and sinking into alcoholism to try to cope. She spies a seemingly perfect couple from her London train ride every day and starts to fantasise about their lives. But things take a turn when she sees something shocking… Ramirez is nearing a deal to play a therapist named Dr. Kamal Abdric in the film, though in the same spirit of avoiding spoilers, we’ll say no more about how he fits into the story. Fans of the book will know his importance.

The Help’s Tate Taylor is directing, with Rebecca Ferguson and Haley Bennett joining Blunt in the cast and Chris Evans and Jared Leto considering two other key male roles, though they are nowhere near confirmed yet.

Aside from Point Break (out February 12), Ramirez will also be seen in David O. Russell’s Joy (January 1) and Gold alongside Matthew McConaughey, though that one doesn’t have a UK release set as of yet.
